Challenge Creator: OWASP Liga CTF
Result
I was selected as a challenge creator for OWASP Liga CTF, where I contributed original cybersecurity challenges for participants to solve during the competition.
This role required me to design challenges that were technically reliable, appropriately difficult, and suitable for a competitive CTF environment.
My contribution
I was responsible for planning, developing, testing, and preparing cybersecurity challenges for the event.
My work involved:
- Designing original challenge concepts
- Defining the intended solution path
- Building the challenge files or environment
- Creating realistic clues and supporting artifacts
- Testing challenges for unintended shortcuts
- Adjusting the difficulty level
- Preparing challenge descriptions and flags
- Verifying that challenges worked correctly before deployment
- Supporting troubleshooting and validation when required
I applied my experience in CTF challenge development across areas such as:
- Digital forensics
- Miscellaneous challenges
- Reverse engineering
- Interactive security puzzles
- File and artifact analysis
- Game-based cybersecurity challenges
I also considered how participants might approach the challenge using automated tools or AI agents, and worked to make the solving process require genuine investigation and interaction.
Why it matters
Being selected as a challenge creator for an OWASP-affiliated CTF was an important recognition of my skills in cybersecurity challenge design.
Creating a challenge for other participants is different from solving one. It requires understanding the technical topic deeply enough to build a fair problem, predict unintended solutions, and ensure that the challenge remains stable during the competition.
This experience strengthened my skills in:
